‘Ello my luver, how you be?
Yes the unmistakable twang of my country folk. The people of Bristol, have come together to celebrate our mighty City. With Twitter as our weapon we shall plough forward and make ourselves heard. Cross river and dale we are Bristol & by golly “Where’s it too?”
Bristol52 is the twitter account in question ad for 52 weeks it will be helmed by a different person. Each from Bristol & each bringing their own mix to the table. This week May 7th to 13th it’s my turn!
Here are some questions that were sent to me by the founder of B52 Mr Jake Johnson.
“Week 3: @Dave_Buxton (7th – 13th May)
Bristol52 is well underway now, with Weeks 1 and 2 almost under our belts. As @nickbrompton prepares to tackle this weekend’s Bristol Folk Festival, we spoke to @Dave_Buxton as he starts warming up to take over on Monday morning…
How did you hear about Bristol52?
It was a retweet from @Hayles that made me aware of Bristol52. I had a look at the profile and tweets & the whole idea excited me. I knew I wanted to be apart of it right away.
Why did you want to get involved?
It is a chance to communicate to a larger audience. To share, to entertain, to educate. Not just random strangers but individuals who share a common interest – the fantastic city of Bristol!
What does the city mean to you?
Bristol is my home. It is my whole life. It shaped my upbringing, my accent, the way I speak, the words I use. They are all Bristolian. Yes, at times I can despise it, but it is me, Bristolian, just as my parents are.
There are so many things about Bristol that impact on so many people. Its history, architecture, famous Bristolians past and present. Bristol is bigger than people think it is.
What is your favourite event in Bristol?
I’m a big fan of the International Balloon Fiesta (in August). It is an awesome spectacle of creation and imagination. With all sorts of people coming together to see the balloons take off. When you see them go up on a mass ascent it is like nothing else. Power and tranquility at the same time. Another great aspect is the night glow which I recommend to everyone. Balloons in the dark, lit by fire, to music, topped off with fireworks!
What is the worst thing about Bristol?
Never a fan of pointing out the negative, so I’ll keep this brief. Bristol can be difficult to travel around or across. We have a terrible public transport system that repeatedly fails customers year on year. No travel/oyster card system, constant promises for different means of travel that never materialise. This is a black mark against our city.
What is your favourite secret about Bristol?
A Bristol secret? Ok. Here is what you do. Go to a place with high people traffic. At present my favourite place for this Cabot Circus. Ground floor, across from House of Fraser. Ok, good. Now grab a drink and a comfy seat. Open your eyes… just watch the people. This is a Bristol gem. The People. They are fantastic in their oddness. They scream life, yet try to sneak past you unnoticed. Make sure you see them. See them. See Bristol.
What can we expect from your week as a Bristol52er?
I really want to get Bristol out there to the masses. So you are going to get blog posts about Bristol52 and Bristol itself. Updates across Twitter with news, stories, items of interest and Bristol themed tweets to drive the number of Bristol52 followers off the high board. Prepare for a Brizzle explosion!”
So as you can see I’m hoping to make this little project be and large by sticking a large rocket up it and shouting about it from any roof top I can on to!
For me info on Bristol52 please see the links above. Much love to you.
